Examining Alignment of Frames Using Actor-Network Constructs: The Implementation of an IT Project
نویسندگان
چکیده
IT projects often cannot succeed without bridging different stakeholders’ perspectives on system design and function during implementation. These perspectives often start as competing technology frames consisting of different beliefs, interests, technology evaluation routines and artifact characteristics. For successful implementation of IT, these competing frames usually need to be stabilized into a dominant frame which is widely accepted. Prior research has offered few clues on the mechanisms that are at work in aligning competing frames. This paper uses a case study to propose mechanisms for aligning frames—namely, two actor-network theory constructs of “black-boxing” and “obligatory points of passage”—that aid in translating the competing frames into a truce frame. The examined properties of these mechanisms are described and analyzed, thereby extending the literature on technology frames by providing evidence of generic aligning mechanisms.

The Symbiosis of Human and Semantic Technology Through the Lens of Actor-Network Theory
Background: Semantic technologies (STs) have made machine reasoning possible by providing intelligent data management methods. This capability has created new forms of interaction between humans and STs, which is called "semantic interaction." The increasing spread of this form of interaction in daily life reveals the need to identify the factors affecting it and introduce the requirements of...

Background The Eastern Quebec Telepathology Network (EQTN) has been implemented in the province of Quebec (Canada) to support pathology and surgery practices in hospitals that are lack of pathologists, especially in rural and remote areas. This network includes 22 hospitals and serves a population of 1.7 million inhabitants spread over a vast territory. An evaluation of this network was conduct...
متن کاملPersian Phone Recognition Using Acoustic Landmarks and Neural Network-based variability compensation methods
Speech recognition is a subfield of artificial intelligence that develops technologies to convert speech utterance into transcription. So far, various methods such as hidden Markov models and artificial neural networks have been used to develop speech recognition systems. In most of these systems, the speech signal frames are processed uniformly, while the information is not evenly distributed ...
متن کاملProject Portfolio Risk Response Selection Using Bayesian Belief Networks
Risk identification, impact assessment, and response planning constitute three building blocks of project risk management. Correspondingly, three types of interactions could be envisioned between risks, between impacts of several risks on a portfolio component, and between several responses. While the interdependency of risks is a well-recognized issue, the other two types of interactions remai...
